Some can find hope simply through a sense of shared experience. By sharing my story maybe I can bring hope to others and help with an anxiety attack.

I worked hard and I played hard. Life was fun. I had a good job, good pay, had the freedom to do what I wanted and simply enjoy living life. My life looked good from the outside.

One day I hit the wall. I started crying and couldn't stop, for no apparent reason. I went into panic mode and couldn't control myself experiencing this extreme anxiety. I couldn't understand what was happening. I felt weak and felt like a failure.

I put up with these episodes for a number of months. Thinking it was just overwork and exhaustion. However, these attacks didn't go away and I was still having trouble keeping control at times.

During the day I maintained my job. I managed to find the ability to act and look the part, to achieve what I had to do at work. Come time to go home, I could hardly walk. I would have to get someone to help me down to the car. I would collapse on a Friday evening and not be able to get out of my bed again until Monday morning when it would all start over again.

I reached out for help from my doctor. I started seeing a psychiatrist and taking medication. Some medications worked, others did not. Unfortunately I had forgotten what it felt like to feel normal. So often I would "put up with" medications that didn't work, and not ask for something else to try. If you are taking medication but still feeling bad, demand to try something else. The right medication can make a difference.

Some days I was simply not on this planet! My mind would just not function. Whilst some people suffer from not being able to get to sleep, I was the opposite. It was so hard to stay awake. I would easily sleep 14 hours if left alone. My body was unresponsive and physically I was sometimes unable to even walk the short distance to the letterbox.

Eventually I had to give up my exciting career, my international travel, my success at leading a team of people. I had to focus on getting that help with an anxiety attack.

Frankly I had lost all hope and nothing interested me any more. My sole purpose was just getting through each day.

Eventually I started seeing a counselor. We seemed to work through every issue I had, but nothing major seemed to have triggered my anxiety and depression.

Life was exhausting!! We didn't do anything, we didn't go anywhere. We couldn't.

Eventually I started doing some programs which helped me and I found the strength to slowly, very slowly find my way back again. I had spent so long with this anxiety and pain that I'd think that I was back to normal, and then find months later that I was feeling even better again. You almost forget what "normal" is after a while.

During the worst moments of this illness, you can loose all sense of hope for the future.

Eventually you may find some relief taking medication. And this will help you feel hope that things can or are starting to improve, that there is a chance that you will get through this.

Hang on to this hope. Hope that things are not totally as bad as you think. Hope that somehow you will emerge out of this. In seeking help - you will eventually emerge out of this!

Hope gives us faith in the future. Hope that good things are to come.

Too many people with bad anxiety and depression have no hope. They feel there is nothing worth living for. That there is no future. Do something today - take action - find someone to help with an anxiety attack.

It's too hard to try and fix this on your own. You need to seek help. Help comes in many forms - medication, psychologists and help programs.

With the right help life can be good again. It's a challenge and you've got to work your way through it but it can be done.

I have a pretty unique relationship with my dad. I was adopted when I was much, much older ? 17 ? but truly, my dad is the only dad I have ever known, and he is a pretty spectacular one. He has listened to me crying, my nose running horrible, over a stupid boy. He has bought me motor oil when my car was overheating (once an entire case!). He has jumped my car and moved my crap and listened to me ramble and process the world out loud dozens upon dozens of times. Each of those moments means the world to me, and because of my relationship with him, I know I will marry a man who values me and treats me with respect. (I?ll be one of those girls whose father needs to give permission for me to be married because I value his input so much!) I also have a younger sister ? she?s just seven ? and watching their relationship really inspires me, too.

I was given the chance to review Daddy Dates: The Road Map for any Dad to Raise A Strong and Confident Daughter and I have to say, at first I thought it was a book about a dad dating another lady who wasn?t the girls? mother. But no, this is actually a non-fiction book about what motivates one dad to maintain important, deep relationships with his four daughters.

I thought this book was really fantastic. While there are no explicit instructions on how to conduct a Daddy Date, Wright talks about how important it is to get to know your daughters while they are still young, and to carry that relationship on throughout their life. It seems like practical advice, but I know a lot of parents ? and dads ? who are more or less cut off from their girls, and it makes me sad.

Wright talks about how important these dates are to him and his girls, and while he says how much his girls love them, he also mentions several times that there are times when they butt heads with dear ol? dad ? but that?s totally normal, given the teenage years. He talks a lot about the importance of knowing who your daughter is because that will help you guide her through those years. And something that I really liked is that he talked about the idea of his girls being allowed to date while they are still in high school ? and they aren?t. I believe he makes some really valid, good points as to why. My own parents didn?t place those restrictions on me (I was a senior when I was adopted) but I remember one really awkward date when I as 19 where we got in my date?s car and he said, ?Um, I don?t mean to be rude but I still feel like they are in the car with us.? Yeah. My parents and Wright would have gotten along fantastically.

It?s kind of hard to be more specific that what I?ve already written: here?s a guide that explains why, when, and how, and it also really encourages dads to know their girls. Simple as that. We shouldn?t need books like this, but we do ? so buy this for a new dad or a da of a young daughter for Father?s Day!

This book does come from a religious publisher, but I genuinely believe that any dad (or mom!) could read this book, regardless of religious background. There aren?t any references to Bible verses, and only a small handful of references to God in general.

One thing that I didn?t love about the book is that it can be repetitive, but it?s a book intended for dads, not for daughters, and from my experience (I love you, padre!), dads occasionally need a little, ahem, reinforcement with what they?ve been taught or told. That?s not enough to deter me from recommending this book to others!

2. From the written speech prepare a speaking or skeleton outline. The main points of your speech should be written down in a few words so that you can see them at a glance. Any sub-points should be represented by 1 or 2 words. Keep the speaking outline brief to avoid the temptation to read the speech.

3. Practice the entire speech without reading. If you have any problems with the content refer back to your written speech for a reminder only. Study it, and try to deliver your speech from the speaking outline. Do not use the written speech as your memory jogger when running through your speech.

4. The amount of times needed to practice the speech will depend on the nature of the speech and how long it takes the speaker to become familiar with the ideas contained in the speech. The aim is to speak freely about your subject. The wording of your speech should be determined at the time you are speaking. If you word it differently each time you practice speaking, then one of these ways will almost certainly be recalled when you are speaking.

5. Practice your delivery in front of the mirror or alternatively video yourself and review for improvements. Also deliver it in front of a few friends and family to help to get used to an audience. If possible deliver it in the room where it will be finally delivered, it will help to prepare you for the actual speech conditions.

6. If you are struggling to free yourself from your notes, then commit the speaking outline to memory.

The extemporaneous style of speaking promotes thinking on your feet which is a highly prized and admired skill. It allows you to be flexible enough to adapt to any changed circumstances, and is the best way to achieve a natural conversational style that is commonly the most effective public speaking style.

The normally relatively sedate session that is Warm Up turned positively fiery on Sunday morning at Le Mans. Literally, in the case of Jorge Lorenzo, whose Yamaha M1 caught fire after the reigning World Champion suffered a lowside on cold tires. Worse followed, when a resounding boom and large cloud of black smoke emerged from Lorenzo's Yamaha, strongly suggesting that his engine had just gone boom.

The fireworks continued with Casey Stoner, who had an on-track run-in with Pramac's Randy de Puniet. The Frenchman was trailing around waiting for a tow, and crossed onto the racing line to get a tow from Stoner just as the Australian approached. Stoner was forced to brake and move off line, and he slowed up to issue de Puniet with a punch while both were still riding. The pair were called to Race Direction after Warm Up was over, where Stoner was issued with a 5000 euro fine, and De Puniet warned after accepting that his actions at that point were wrong.

On track, it was once again Stoner who was fastest, by half a second over Marco Simoncelli. The cooler temperatures benefited the Ducatis, with Nicky Hayden 3rd fastest, and Valentino Rossi in 5th, just behind Dani Pedrosa.

Food Expert Michael Pollan Plays 'Not My Job'

And now, the game where we like to talk to experts in one field about something else entirely. Michal Pollan is the most well known authority on food and food economics working today in journalism. In his books, "The Omnivore's Dilemma" and "In Defense of Food," he sums up his advice as eat food, not too much, mostly plants, which, of course, is absolutely un-American.

(Soundbite of laughter)

SAGAL: Michael Pollan, welcome to WAIT WAIT...DON'T TELL ME!

(Soundbite of applause)

Mr. MICHAEL POLLAN (Writer, "In Defense of Food"): Thank you.

SAGAL: Great to have you here.

Mr. POLLAN: Thank you, Peter.

SAGAL: I just want to say, as we start, I'm a huge fan of your books. One of the reasons I like your work is because I love conspiracy theories. That's a hobby of mine. And you are like this conspiracy theorist, except there really is a conspiracy. Apparently, I mean to summarize your work, the reason we're all fat and sick is Richard Nixon's fault.

(Soundbite of laughter)

Mr. POLLAN: Well, that's a gloss on my work.

SAGAL: I know. That's my take.

Mr. POLLAN: Well, yeah, there was this interesting moment of hyper inflation, hyper food inflation back in the 70s when he was running against McGovern who was a farm state senator. And he was really afraid of losing the farm folk. So he made this grain deal with Russia and that drove up farm prices, secured the farm vote, but afterward it led to this bought of hyper inflation. And women were in the street protesting the price of butter. There was horse meat showing up in the butcher shops and people were really upset.

So he hired Earl Butz, the sage of Purdue, an agricultural economist, a brilliant man, and gave him the job of drive down food prices. Do whatever you can to make food as cheap as possible in America. And he did. He figured out a new way to subside agriculture. He persuaded farmers to get big. You know, only grow corn and soybeans. With the result that we increased the amount of corn we grow from four billion to fourteen billion bushels. And soda got really cheap and meat got really cheap and we got really fat.

Mr. MO ROCCA (Television personality): It's almost Dickensian, Earl Butz.

SAGAL: Yeah.

(Soundbite of laughter)

SAGAL: And then in addition, in your latest book "In Defense of Food," you take on, like, the nutritionists. The people who have been telling us like every day well you need to eat more of this. And the next day they stay no, you don't. You need to eat more of that.

Mr. POLLAN: We're very confused about food I think. Which, you know, which is weird. I mean what other species needs experts to tell them how to eat?

(Soundbite of laughter)

(Soundbite of applause)

Ms. PAULA POUNDSTONE (Comedienne): Well...

Mr. POLLAN: But it's been a good career for me.

SAGAL: I know.

Mr. POLLAN: It's worked out.

Ms. POUNDSTONE: I can't tell you how many times I've had to tell my dog to get his head out of the garbage can, so.

(Soundbite of laughter)

SAGAL: So, all right, so what should we be eating?

Mr. POLLAN: Food.

(Soundbite of laughter)

Ms. POUNDSTONE: How thick is your book?

(Soundbite of laughter)

Mr. POLLAN: It's very hard actually for us now to know what food is because there are all these edible food-like substances now that compete with food in the supermarket. So a lot of the book is helping people distinguish between the edible food-like substances and...

SAGAL: Right.

Mr. POLLAN: ...and the real...

SAGAL: Like, for example, one of my rules is food does not come with a prize.

Mr. POLLAN: That's good. I'm going to use that one.

SAGAL: You see?

Mr. MO ROCCA (Television personality): Wait, wait, Cracker Jacks do though. I don't understand. What?

(Soundbite of laughter)

Ms. POUNDSTONE: Okay, but let me ask you something. One of the things that has made my life worth living is Ring Dings. And I feel that it is food. Are you going to tell me that's not food?

Mr. POLLAN: There's a few simple tests to figure out if a Ring Ding is food or not. How many ingredients does a Ring Ding have?

Ms. POUNDSTONE: Devil's food cake, one.

(Soundbite of laughter)

Mr. POLLAN: Now, see, right there.

Ms. POUNDSTONE: A creamy filling, two.

Mr. ROCCA: Yeah.

Ms. POUNDSTONE: And a rich chocolate outer coating. What's the matter with you?

(Soundbite of laughter)

Mr. POLLAN: I think I would look at the package next time. That creamy is not cream. It...

Ms. POUNDSTONE: C-R-E-M-E-Y, cremey.

Mr. ROCCA: It's creamy.

(Soundbite of laughter)

Ms. POUNDSTONE: What the hell's the matter with you?

(Soundbite of laughter)

Mr. POLLAN: But, but, but, but, there are, you know there are special occasion foods. And a Ring Ding...

Ms. POUNDSTONE: What do you mean special occasion? I said it's what makes my life worth living.

(Soundbite of laughter)

Ms. POUNDSTONE: Are you suggesting I save it for one day a year?

(Soundbite of laughter)

Mr. POLLAN: I wouldn't want to deprive you of your...

SAGAL: Well, wait a minute.

Ms. POUNDSTONE: You know what, you may know a lot about food but you don't know the first thing about living, buddy.

(Soundbite of laughter)

SAGAL: Hold on. I actually wanted to ask you that. You've become this hero of the whole foods, local foods, real foods movement, is that a burden to you? I mean, if you ever want to eat a cheeseburger, do you have to go hide somewhere?

Mr. POLLAN: Well I did, shortly after I got to Berkeley, I was in Berkeley Bowl and there are a lot of...

(Soundbite of applause)

SAGAL: Berkeley Bowl, just for people who aren't...

Ms. POUNDSTONE: What is it?

SAGAL: ...blessed enough to live here...

Mr. POLLAN: It's a local supermarket which has wonderful fresh produce, grass-fed beef, it's your idea of hell I think. And my son, when he was young, really liked Fruity Pebbles.

Ms. POUNDSTONE: I'll bet he did.

Mr. ROCCA: I love those.

Mr. POLLAN: And that was his Saturday, you know, breakfast. I was actually reaching for a box of Fruity Pebbles and somebody tapped on my shoulder. And it was this tall bearded graduate student and he said - and I'm like this, he said, "I'm watching Michael Pollan shop for groceries."

(Soundbite of laughter)

Mr. POLLAN: And I didn't go in that store again for many, many months. Another rule is don't eat any food that won't eventually rot. I had a Twinkie for two years. I owned a Twinkie that I...

Ms. POUNDSTONE: Oh you did not.

Mr. ROCCA: Really?

Mr. POLLAN: I did. I have it. I didn't bring it with me. I have it on my shelf in my office. And I would give it a squeeze every couple of weeks to see how it was doing.

Ms. POUNDSTONE: Aww.

Mr. ROCCA: Like Mr. Whipple.

Mr. POLLAN: And...

Ms. POUNDSTONE: That's not good for them.

(Soundbite of laughter)

Mr. ROCCA: You bruised your Twinkie.

Mr. POLLAN: Two years later, it was as soft and spongy as the day I bought it.

SAGAL: If you keep...

Ms. POUNDSTONE: That's such...

Mr. ROCCA: But if you unwrap it - you didn't unwrap it.

Mr. POLLAN: I didn't unwrap it.

Ms. POUNDSTONE: All right, okay, my problem, I try to teach my kids to eat healthy food but you get a cantaloupe and you don't know when it's going to come of age. You have no idea, that period between when it's like hard as a rock to when it's smushy inside is about ten minutes.

SAGAL: Right. And Ring Dings...

Ms. POUNDSTONE: And sometimes you got to wake the kids in the middle of the night because the cantaloupe's ready.

(Soundbite of laughter)

Ms. POUNDSTONE: Your kid wanted Fruity Pebbles just so he could sleep.

(Soundbite of laughter)

SAGAL: Well, Michael Pollan, we have invited you here to play a game that this time we're calling?

Honest to goodness, if I had one of these in my home, I would never leave the bathroom.

SAGAL: So you're an expert on food, what we put into our bodies.

(Soundbite of laughter)

SAGAL: And we were casting around for something you might not know anything about. And we eventually decided on the other end of the process. And nobody handles that better than the Japanese. We are going to ask you now three multiple choice questions about the latest high tech electronic Japanese super toilets. Get two such questions right, you will win our prize for one of our listeners. Carl, who is author Michael Pollan playing for?

KASELL: He is playing for Linda DeSantis of Berkeley, California.

SAGAL: All right.

(Soundbite of applause)

SAGAL: Here's your first question. Leading Japanese high tech toilet manufacturer Toto Corporation offered free repairs to one model after some of that model were found to do what? A: burst into flames.

(Soundbite of laughter)

SAGAL: B: circulate water clockwise, in the shameful southern hemisphere fashion. Or C: lower the motorized toilet seat back down too quickly, shocking and in some cases trapping male users...

(Soundbite of laughter)

SAGAL: ...who were just taking a little bit too much time.

Mr. POLLAN: I'm going to go with C.

SAGAL: You're going to go with C, all of the sudden just, boom.

Mr. TOM BODETT (Author, humorist): Ow.

SAGAL: That.

(Soundbite of laughter)

SAGAL: Well you're right in that many of the toilets have motorized lids that go up and down by themselves but in this case the problem was they were bursting into flames.

Mr. BODETT: Bursting into flames.

SAGAL: Yeah.

(Soundbite of laughter)

Ms. POUNDSTONE: Wow.

Mr. ROCCA: Doesn't it depend on what you eat?

SAGAL: No.

(Soundbite of laughter)

SAGAL: These toilets are highly mechanized and motorized with lots of electronic components. And in this particular case, the bidet attachment was catching fire.

Ms. POUNDSTONE: Yeah, but corn syrup can douse that.

SAGAL: Yeah. That's why it's important to have.

(Soundbite of laughter)

SAGAL: All right, we have two more questions for you. Here's your second one. Ready?

Mr. POLLAN: Are they all about toilets?

SAGAL: They are in fact all about Japanese super toilets.

Mr. POLLAN: Okay.

SAGAL: Many Japanese public restrooms, already equipped with futuristic toilets, have upgraded them further with a device called the Sound Princess. What does the Sound Princess do? A: it plays a coaxing, gentle female voice to help men get their business just by encouraging them. B: it simulates the sound of water flushing to cover other bathroom noises. Or C: it rates the strength of your urination by its sound as a measure of prostate health.

(Soundbite of laughter)

Mr. POLLAN: I'm going to say B.

SAGAL: You're going to go for B. You're right.

(Soundbite of bell)

(Soundbite of applause)

SAGAL: It covers the sound. Japanese people, especially women are reputed to be very embarrassed by bathroom noises, so these devices, the Sound Princesses, cover it up with whatever noise they choose. All right, this is exciting, one for two. You have one more question to go. Get this, you win.

They're not done, Japanese toilet engineers. Just recently, a model went on the market with what new feature? A: a massage attachment that will reach up and rub your shoulders as you use the device. B: a personalized mp3 player that will recognize you by your weight and automatically play your favorite music.

(Soundbite of laughter)

SAGAL: Or C: a remote control to save you the trouble of having to turn slightly to use the control pad.

Mr. POLLAN: I'm going to go with C.

SAGAL: You're going to go with the remote control?

Mr. POLLAN: Yeah.

SAGAL: You're right.

(Soundbite of bell)

Mr. POLLAN: Hey.

SAGAL: Hey. A little remote control so you can, you know, operate its features. By the way, the remote control on the new model has a big button that's labeled in English "Stop". And the reason is, is because westerners in Japan have had a problem. They don't know how to deal with these toilets and there's been incidents of people being trapped on them or spraying water all over the bathroom. So they want to make it easier.

Mr. BODETT: A panic button on your toilet remote.

SAGAL: Exactly.

(Soundbite of laughter)

Mr. POLLAN: You know, you've given me an idea for a sequel.

SAGAL: Really?

Mr. POLLAN: Yeah.

SAGAL: There you go.

Mr. POLLAN: This whole conversation.
